I don't mind watching films I don't like, as long as I can learn something from them. And I was thinking of doing Ed Wood as a bonus review, which didn't end up panning out. But I'll be watching soon!Brennanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15399713449347559869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7799692319538063538.post-53887191067036425012019-10-31T08:03:52.923-07:002019-10-31T08:03:52.923-07:00"but is this movie really any cheaper or wors..."but is this movie really any cheaper or worse than the effects in, say, The Giant Claw or It Conquered the World?"

Yes? Though I agree that Plan 9 isn't *that* bad. There are definitely worse 50s/60s B-movies, much much worse. Alligator People, Horror of Party Beach, The Leech Woman, Cult of the Cobra, especially The Creeping Terror which makes Ed Wood's movies look like William Wyler's. I daresay Plan 9 is better than, e.g., The Sinister Urge as well, though that's Wood working in a different genre. Plan 9 is basically just a sloppier, stupider, cheaper Day the Earth Stood Still.

Even so, I've never seen it sans Rifftrax, so my opinion it's even close to acceptable (it's probably in the 3/10-4/10 range for me) isn't based on an exposure to the raw stuff. That its production is the subject of Tim Burton's very best movie almost certainly knocks it up a notch, too, because after you see Ed Wood it's impossible to truly hate Ed Wood's movies.

Nevertheless, it looks like I got the better end of the bargain yet again. Sorry, B, and happy Halloween indeed! (I do feel genuinely stressed about giving you what turned out to be a slate of straight 5/10s.)Hunter Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925220178171355473noreply@blogger.com
