He does like it when people die in cool ways. Maybe that was it.Hunter Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925220178171355473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7799692319538063538.post-36404281586998416992015-09-29T14:18:23.565-07:002015-09-29T14:18:23.565-07:00I haven't seen Hannibal in a long time, but re...I haven't seen Hannibal in a long time, but remember being too young to fully understand or appreciate it any way. Silence is still great, as I rewatched that recently, and Manhunter is insanely underrated. I remember the big take away of Hannibal being the ending where Hannibal cuts open Ray Liota's head, pretty gruesome stuff. But yeah, I need to watch this sequel again. It's surprising that Ridley Scott of all people directed this horror drama and released it in between Gladiator and Black Hawk Down, two immensely manly and action packed epics. Anyway, I have a soft spot for the Hannibal franchise too and consider it to be one of my favorite horror franchises.Zach Nixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09897951069093994788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7799692319538063538.post-40515728711326312962015-09-29T10:39:55.625-07:002015-09-29T10:39:55.625-07:00I... kind of love Scott's Hannibal. (I like i...I... kind of love Scott's Hannibal. (I like it better than Manhunter, which is fine--hell, I own it--but also has a very overheated fanbase. It would probably be nearly-forgotten if not for the fact that Michael Mann directed it; whereas it's probably like my eighth favorite Mann movie.) Anyway, Hannibal operates on nothing like the same level of Silence, and it's kind of dumb. As you say, it's not as dumb as the book--and that's to its benefit. (Then again by removing the dumb parts of the book it also removes many of the story's reasons for existing, and the book reaches a state of truly ineffable dumbness, which is only grasped at by the film.)

But despite all that, I really enjoy Anthony Hopkins playing Hannibal Lecter as a gory adventure protagonist.

...God help me if I ever watch Hannibal Rising and love that, too, though. But that's not exactly a Ridley Scott film.Hunter Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925220178171355473noreply@blogger.com
